Ash Wednesday Services AM

Ash Wednesday will be observed with two simple services of readings, silence, prayer and the imposition of Ashes.  Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and is a time to remember our humanity and our mortality. One service will be at the beginning of the day: 7-7:25 a.m. the other near day’s end: 6:30-6:55 p.m.

The visible centerpiece of Ash Wednesday is the ceremony of the imposition of ashes as "a sign of our mortality and penitence." This can be a powerful symbol, calling to mind the ancient custom of tearing one's clothes and sitting in ashes as a sign of mourning or penitence.
